Planning for Retirement: Preparing for the Road Ahead with Confidence

Article Three - 20 March 2025

The Stelvio Pass Road in Italy was picked by the British automotive show Top Gear as its choice for the “greatest driving road in the world”, although their search was limited to Europe.

Looking at this road makes me think about what’s around the next corner - something that’s not always certain.  I’m not sure if I’ll be on that route later this year, but there are parts of my upcoming trip to Europe that involve a fair amount of uncertainty. To minimise risks, I’ve taken out travel insurance—not only for lost luggage or cancelled flights, but also to cover medical issues or, in the worst case, bring my body home. And for the unknown I guess I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed, my eyes wide open and hoping for the best!

Moving from that analogy, I’m a Certified Financial Planner (CFPᶜᵐ) and as the title suggests, working in investment is all about planning. A small word that covers a vast range of scenarios within the six areas of financial planning that include cashflow and risk management, together with investment, tax, retirement, and estate planning.

We don’t always know what’s ahead, and so often we’re planning for the complete unknown.  But at work I don’t do any finger crossing or leave anything to chance.  My colleagues and I use various risk mitigation strategies, and we work closely with our clients to ensure that they have a solid plan that can be adjusted as and when their circumstances change.  For our clients, we’re committed to travelling that road with them, making sure that their journey is smooth, and they reach their destination; that they achieve their financial goals.

And going back to that road and to Italy, well, adventure most definitely lies ahead….
